Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, transfer to your hotel in Moshi.
  • Pre-climb briefing and equipment check.

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

  • Elevation: 1,870m to 2,720m (6,135ft to 8,924ft)
  • Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
  • Trek through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut. Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys along the trail.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: 2,720m to 3,720m (8,924ft to 12,205ft)
  • Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
  • Walk through heather and moorland zones, with views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks in the distance.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: 3,720m (12,205ft)
  • Optional trek to Zebra Rocks at 3,980m (13,054ft) to aid acclimatization, helping to adjust to the altitude before ascending higher.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Elevation: 3,720m to 4,703m (12,205ft to 15,430ft)
  • Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 5-6 hours
  • Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, arriving at Kibo Hut for an early rest before the summit attempt.

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: 4,703m to 5,895m (15,430ft to 19,341ft) – Uhuru Peak, and descent to 3,720m (12,205ft)
  • Distance: 18 km (11.2 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 10-15 hours
  • Depart at midnight for the summit push, reaching Gilman’s Point, then onto Uhuru Peak. Descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

  • Elevation: 3,720m to 1,870m (12,205ft to 6,135ft)
  • Distance: 20 km (12.4 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
  • Enjoy the rainforest views as you descend. After reaching the gate, receive your summit certificate and return to Moshi for overnight.

Day 8: Departure from Moshi

  • Airport transfer for your onward journey.
